Are love poems the ultimate expression of love?

Are love poems the ultimate expression of love?

After college, I was stuck with the question I dreaded the most “what next?” I was out of college and clueless about what I wanted to do next in life. So I took a break and enrolled myself into poetry and literary class, I was hoping I would learn to write love poems like the legendary Shakespeare or John Milton or Lord Tennyson!

In the beginning, poetry class was fun, we were made to write simple poems, the kind kids could write but with the weeks it got more intense. While class was beginning to get a bit boring, a new arrival seemed to make my life more interesting. Chad, a handsome graduate student, was smart, intelligent and infectiously gorgeous and I fell head over heels in love with him. Before I knew it, love poems were streaming down from within me.

I don’t know if love poems are the ultimate expression of love or not? But during my Chad phase, I wrote some of my best poetry ever. Of course, Chad and I never worked out. While I was obsessing over him, he was steadily dating someone. Horribly enough, I kept hoping he’d break-up but that didn’t happen. What is more? Realizing Chad would never be mine, drove me to write a lot of beautiful, sad, love poems. Infact, my literary and poetry teacher was impressed with my work and wanted to feature my work in a magazine.

Sometimes, I wonder if the legendary Shakespeare and the likes of him, wrote out of the depths of a broken heart.
