Romantic Ideas

Most people would agree that romantic relationships aren`t always easy. With every relationship there are the inevitable toe-curlingly awkward moments, the feelings of uncertainty, those horrible moments of self doubt and of course hours waiting for the phone to ring. And that`s just the first date! But really, there must be something pretty spectacular about romantic relationships to make all of us put ourselves through painful breakups and days spent teary-eyed under the duvet and yet still pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and head out once again with a patched-up heart looking for love.

It`s fair to say then that everybody loves a little romance in their lives now and again, as there is nothing nicer than feeling like your loved one has put a little time and effort into bringing a smile to your face and a little romance into your lives. Many people, however, find making romantic gestures or arranging a romantic occasion rather stressful, as they find it hard to think of romantic ideals beyond the typical dinner by candle light. There are, however, hundreds of things you can do to show your loved one how much you care about them and here are a few of the best.

Though a candlelit dinner in a swanky restaurant may seem a little old hat to some, it`s not time to chuck out the candles quite yet! Instead of making reservations at a fancy eatery, however, why not make more of a special effort by preparing a meal for your partner? By doing this you can cook exactly what it is they love, put on the music that you both like and not have to listen to other diner`s gossip or squabbles over the bill! Furthermore, when the food`s is done with and you`re ready for bed, there is no waiting around for a taxi as you can simply turn the light out and climb the stairs!

They say that it`s the little things that count and this is certainly true of romantic gestures. Slipping a little love note or poem into your partner`s diary could really brighten up their day, as will an unexpected text message or e-mail telling them how great you think they are. Furthermore, why wait until Valentine`s Day to buy each other little gifts? Be a bit more original and surprise your partner with a small token of your affection when they are least expecting it. On the other hand, if you have cash to spare than grand gestures are always appreciated - who is going to say no to a romantic weekend away? Try avoiding the typically `romantic` locations such as Paris and Rome, however and instead be a little more adventurous by booking a trip to somewhere like Riga or Munich.

Romance isn`t just important for couples, however, as if you`re single but on the look out for love a romantic date can make all the difference. Try arranging something that you feel confident your date will really love and something a little more original than dinner and a movie!

So whether you`re a loved-up couple in London or part of the Edinburgh singles crowd, remember that there`s always time to add a little romance to your life!
